Southease Bridge

Highlight • Trail

This historic bridge was built in 1880. It is the second bridge on the site and though the swing mechanism remains, it has not been opened since 1967. In September 2009 the bridge was granted Grade II-listed building status.

Cadence Cycle Hub, Litlington

Highlight • Cycleway

Cadence is an outdoor cafe in Litlington, popular with cyclists. It's renowned for its excellent coffee and generous toasties named after famous cyclists.

Take advantage of the floor pump and cycling tools this hub has to offer, and fill up your bottles at the water tap.

Alfriston Village

Highlight • Settlement

Alfriston is a village community surrounded by the Wealden South Downs. We sit near the eastern end of the South Downs Way where this national path splits three ways, going east, west and south, from the very centre of our historic village.

Around the village, visitors can enjoy the famous St Andrew's church (the "Cathedral of the South Downs"), the clergy house (the National Trust's first property) and our wide range of galleries, cafés, pubs and shops.

Old Coach Road

Highlight (Segment) • Historical Site

A scenic gently undulating gravel track between Firle and Alfriston running at the foot of the downs. Much of it is very well surfaced but it can get muddy and become flooded after rain.

The Old Coach Road was part of the original road between Brighton and Eastbourne, dating back over 1,000 years. Now it's a very quiet track where you may see the occasional tractor.

Glynde Village

Highlight • Historical Site

Glynde village boasts a unique and storied past. For nearly five centuries, the majority of this village has been under the ownership of a single family.

Located to the east of Lewes and entirely enveloped by the South Downs National Park, Glynde provides you with breathtaking vistas of the Weald and the Downs, firmly establishing itself as one of the most picturesque villages in the county.

It has a train station and village shop but no pub!
