From Bad Stur, I wouldn't recommend the tour directly along the water. And especially not with a lot of luggage. It's absolutely impossible to do with a trailer. I would definitely recommend the detour here. However, if you want to go between trees, under and over trees, then it's recommended because you get a wonderful view of the water.

Villa Bardey

Highlight • Historical Site

Villa Bardey in Bad Stuer is a significant historical building on the southeastern shore of Lake Plau. It was built in 1896 by Dr. Hans Bardey, the son of Gustav Bardey, a key promoter of spa treatments in the region. The villa, originally called "Villa Berghaus," served as the Bardey family residence and stands to this day as a testament to Bad Stuer's heyday as a spa town.

As early as 1862, Gustav Bardey had taken over the management of the local hydrotherapy establishment, which operated according to the principles of the then-popular natural healing methods. Under his leadership, Bad Stuer developed into a recognized spa resort. He had paths laid out, parts of the surrounding landscape reforested, and made the village attractive to spa guests from all over Germany. His work shaped the town's image and significance for decades.

The villa itself is situated on a hillside overlooking Lake Plau and, with its modern architecture and stylish furnishings, was a symbol of prosperity and progress at the time. Today the building is a listed monument and a reminder of the time when Bad Stuer was a popular destination for those seeking relaxation and for followers of naturopathy.

Bad Stuer on Lake Plau

Highlight • Historical Site

The district of Bad Stuer with a hydrotherapy facility run by the alternative practitioner (“water doctor”) Heinrich Friedrich Francke (pseudonym: J. H. Rausse) was founded in 1845. While the spa guests were initially treated according to the principles of water healing by Vincenz Prießnitz, the methods of healing treatment later followed the views of Sebastian Kneipp. With the outbreak of the First World War, the spa business gradually came to a standstill and finally ended completely when Russian and French prisoners of war were quartered. In 1923 the inventory was auctioned off and some of the buildings were demolished. (from: Wikipedia on June 28, 2023, de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuer).
It's amazing how sloping the terrain is towards the lake. The old villas and buildings are embedded in beautiful, old trees and give an idea of their old splendor.

Kingfisher Valley (Tal der Eisvögel)

Highlight (Segment) • Natural Monument

At the beginning or end depending on the direction of travel ;-) there is a billboard for kingfisher. Directly behind it is a sandy wall in which the kingfishers build their breeding cave.
