A small village a short way from the River Wharfe and the Dalesway footpath. There is an excellent cafe, The Old School House, which is well worth a visit.

Grassington village

Highlight • Settlement

Grassington is a pretty village set within the stunning scenery of Upper Wharfedale. There are pubs, cafes and shops in the village, which has a rich history stretching back to the 12th century.

A particularly gorgeous part of the walk on the northern banks of River Wharf between Hebden Mill and Grassington, which is also a part of the Dales Way trail. The combined beauty of the trees of the Lythe Plantation with that of the river make for a very scenic spot. In the autumn, the colours of the leaves on the trees add to the spectacle. A must-see!

Hebden Suspension Bridge

Highlight • Historical Site

Hebden Suspension Bridge was built by local blacksmith William Bell and opened in September 1885. The bridge rocks a little as you walk over it, and is quite narrow, resulting in a fun crossing of the River Wharfe.

This is a fantastic place to stop at for some food and drink on your walk. Rather obviously (from the tearoom's name), this used to be a school. It dates to 1874, and you will see here a restored old school clock. A wonderful view of the Hebden Beck from the outside, and also pigs, hens and goats to be met! There is also a play park next door, so this is a great place to go if you are with children.

Sit and enjoy!
