Wonderful as a stage destination. On the one hand a great view of the Wetterau, on the other hand the green area behind the tower offers space for a picnic.

Saalburg Roman Fort and Museum

Highlight • Historical Site

The archaeological excavations at the Saalburg began in the mid-19th century. From 1894, the ancient studies Louis Jacobi led the excavations and from 1897 to 1907 the reconstruction of the fort, promoted by the antique enthusiastic Kaiser Wilhelm II. For the reconstruction Jacobi oriented himself to the designs of ancient models, so that the existing parts of today's plant an approximately faithful to the original impression Offer. Today, the complex houses the Saalburg Museum and a research institute. Around the reconstructed fort they tried to rebuild a Roman landscape with the camp village, temples, sanctuaries and public buildings. To visit today are so among other things, the Jupiter Column and the Temple of Mithras. In 2005 UNESCO included the Upper German-Raetian Limes and thus the Saalburg in the list of world cultural heritage.

Saalburg Roman fort

Highlight • Historical Site

The Saalburg, a fort with a camp village on the border of the Roman Empire and the Germanic tribal areas in Roman times, was rebuilt around 1900 on the initiative of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The complex, which is unique in the world, is part of the UNESCO Limes World Heritage Site. The complete fortifications, buildings made of stone and wood and reconstructed baking ovens can be seen. Staged rooms, models and archaeological finds illustrate the living and working environment of the soldiers and the population in the village outside the gates. A tour of the Saalburg gives visitors a good insight into the history, culture and way of life of the Romans.

Jupiter Column on the Feldberg

Highlight • Monument

A little below the Saalburg on the way to Hohemark you will be surprised by this very high, impressive column. The gold-plated figure on the top shines most beautifully at dusk.
