Immaculate Conception Church in Egen

Highlight • Religious Site

The residents of Egen financed the construction of the Catholic church themselves in 1848. Since 2017, the church has been the first hiking and cycling church in the Archdiocese of Cologne.

View of the Neyetal Dam

Highlight • Viewpoint

Since the water requirements of the city of Remscheid could no longer be completely covered by the neighboring Eschbach dam, the first plans for another dam were made as early as 1902. After work began in the Neyetal near Wipperfürth in 1907, the dam, designed according to the Intze principle, was put into operation in the spring of 1909.

Since the water requirements of the city of Remscheid could no longer be completely covered by the neighboring Eschbach dam, the first plans for another dam were made as early as 1902. After work began in the Neyetal near Wipperfürth in 1907, the dam, which was constructed according to the Intze principle, was put into operation in the spring of 1909. With a capacity of 6 million m³, the Neyetalsperre supplied the city of Remscheid with drinking water until 2004. Today it remains as a replacement for emergencies and is otherwise used for flood protection or to raise low water levels. Since 2007 we have been responsible for the operational management of the Neyetalsperre, which is owned by EWR GmbH. The Neyetalsperre is connected to the Bever Dam, the Schevelingen Dam and the Mühlenteich Wasserfuhr via tunnels and together they form the Bever Block. It is connected to the Eschbachtalsperre by a 15 km long pipeline.

Beautiful winter hike in glorious sunshine! 🌞😊

It goes deep into the Bergisches Land, exactly where there is actually only forest and meadow and this incredible variety of water. It collects and meets in one of the many reservoirs. One of them is the Neyetal reservoir. Beautifully close to nature and exclusively a drinking water reserve. The water here is turquoise to dark blue. That focuses me …

A narrow path leads from the hiking car park to the edge of the forest and up to the top. Here you have a beautiful view of hills, meadows and forests. The path leads through the forest and through sparse birch stands towards Unterlüttingau. Via the Panoramasteig access path, you reach the Bevertalsperre dam after about 300 meters. It leads …

This tour comes from the "Walks for the Soul" by Dorothee Bastian, Droste-Verlag 🙂.
It starts from the ideal starting point 🅿️ "Schwarzer Weg" (in the direction of Egen approx. 1 km behind the much better signposted and "more comfortable" hiking 🅿️ Oberröttenscheid on the left).
The beginning (to the northeast bank of the Bever) runs along very beautiful, narrow …

Although it didn't really fit into the tight schedule, I took a drive to just beyond Wipperfürth for my Saturday hike🥾🥾, where I wanted to visit two of the wonderful dams in our region. I combined the inland waters💦 located between the Bergisch towns of Wipperfürth and Hückeswagen with a tour through the most beautiful terrain.

A tour from the book "Hiking for the soul - Bergisches Land"

A beautifully selected round between Wipperfürth and Radevormwald, past the Bever, the pretty village of Egen and the Neye fjords. Often there are along smaller streams that have happily rumored to themselves. Despite the sometimes major damage in the forest caused by clear-cutting, storm damage and forestry vehicles, …
