Christ's Hospital Disused Railway Station Platforms

Highlight • Monument

The old railway station platforms, on what was the line to Cranleigh, have been made accessible to the public this year. The area has been reinstated and opened up to walkers and cyclists, along with a new section of the Downs Link between Mill lane and Christ's Hospital. There was previously a road diversion around this section of the old line. The removal of this "missing link" on the Downs Link has opened up the route to many users who may have been deterred by the section on the roads.

The space on the platforms is a bit bare at the moment, apart from station signs and information board, but it's a good spot to pause and soak up some of the history.

View from Box Hill

Highlight • Viewpoint

Box Hill is one of the most famous hills in Surrey, if not the UK. Named after the ancient box woodland on its slopes, the hill is blanketed in green and enjoys panoramic viewpoints over the surrounding countryside and Dorking.

Box Hill has become more and more popular with cyclists after it featured in the 2012 Olympics cycling road race events. Around 850,000 people now visit the hill each year. Managed by the National Trust, you can follow in the pedal strokes of Olympians and ride the Box Hill circuit that climbs up to 390 feet (120 meters), although the hill's highest point is 735 feet (224 meters) at Betchworth Clumps.
