Faeryland Grasmere Tea Garden and Boat Hire

Highlight • Cafe

Sit down, enjoy a perfect cup of tea and maybe a few biscuits, and enjoy the view on Grasmere. Opening times depend upon the weather, but if you are as lucky as we were and manage to arrive her at good weather, you will find yourself transported into another world. Fancy taking a boat out? You can also rent boats here and explore Grasmere via water. Or just watch everyone else row while you buy another cup... and another...

View of Rydal Water

Highlight • Lake

Rydal Water is one of the smallest lakes in the Lake District. It is only 3/4 mile long by 1/4 mile at its widest point, that is a pretty small 1.2 kilometres by 400 metres in metric terms. However, it is a very popular place because of the connection to William Wordsworth. The views out over Rydal are great from any vantage point, but particularly from here, where you can get a close-up view of the island.

Coffin Route

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Coffin Route is named after the route taken to carry people who had died from Ambleside and Rydal to St Oswald's Church in Grasmere for their burial. It's a beautifully scenic and humbling trail, knowing this was the last taken by many.

Dove Cottage offers an intimate look at the life of William Wordsworth. It was here that many of his finest poems were created, often inspired by the detailed descriptions of their surroundings captured by his sister Dorothy, who shared the Cottage with her brother, wife and children. Truly worth a visit!
