Bleckede Castle

Highlight • Castle

Beautiful town on the Elbe with a castle.

After the fall of Henry the Lion, the Guelphs lost control of the Artlenburg Elbe crossing and Bardowick's trade routes towards the end of the 12th century. Bleckede was therefore founded in 1209[2] as a town by Duke William of Brunswick and Lüneburg as a new trading centre under the name Löwenstadt / Lowenstat on the Elbe. The name chosen in memory of Henry the Lion did not prevail. The place name Bleckede is probably derived from the Old Germanic "Blek-ithi", blek and -ithi mean bright, free, light place, and originated from the earlier German and Wendish settlement Bleketsa and slavicum Bleckede.

Bleckede Brewhouse

Highlight • Pub

The Bleckeder Brauhaus is located directly in Bleckede in the Breite Straße 20.
In a cozy atmosphere you can enjoy the Bleckeder beer, which is brewed and processed in your own room. The art of brewing has a long tradition in Bleckede, but this has only been brought to life again by Stephan Scheer with the construction of the Bleckeder Brauhaus. Not only beer, but also delicious food you can get here.

St. Jacobi Church Bleckede

Highlight • Religious Site

In 1765 the "predecessor" of this church had to be demolished because it was dilapidated. One year later, the Bleckeder Jacobikirche received its present form.

It offers a lot of special and valuable inventory, including a crucifixion group from the 15th century. The pulpit and baptismal font date from the 17th century.

At the beginning of the 20th century, two colored church windows were added to the left and right of the altar: here you can see the Christmas events and the Resurrection.

But the most recent history is also documented in the Bleckede Church: a church window shows a motif for the opening of the border in 1989, which was a special event locally for Bleckede - due to its location directly on the Elbe.

The tower is only a fragment of the origin from the 15./16. Century. But you have cleverly put a steel structure in it, so the tower is not attacked further and the lookout tower gets in the long term stability. A magnificent view over the landscape worth the short climb necessarily!

Historic timber-framed house in Radegast

Highlight • Historical Site

In Radegast and Brackede you will find especially beautiful half-timbered houses on the dike. One thing is completely out of the ordinary and the house with the old draw well stands by the church of Radegast.

From the dike you have a beautiful view of the Elbe. Unfortunately, most of the cycle path runs on the side of the dike facing away from the Elbe, so that the Elbe is not often seen from the cycle path.
