St Mary Magdalene Church, Albrighton

Highlight • Religious Site

St Mary Magdalene is a pretty church on the outskirts of Albrighton. The church was built in the late 12th century in the Norman style using red sandstone. While significant restoration took place in the 19th century, you can still observe many original features, including the west tower and some of the windows. St Mary’s is Grade II-listed.

White Ladies Priory Ruins

White Ladies Priory was founded in the 12th century. Its residents were nuns who wore white cloth, hence the name. The priory found itself at the epicentre of the English Civil War for a short period when King Charles II hid there as he fled Cronwell’s army after his defeat at the Battle of Worcester in 1951. The impressive ruins are free-to-enter.
