Bedd Arthur Stone Circle

Highlight • Natural Monument

The supposed burial place of King Arthur, although the stones predate the legend by a few thousand years. But don't let the truth get in the way of a good story! That said, sites of importance have been reused throughout the ages, so you never know. Regardless, what a place!

This ridgeline bridleway along the top of the Preseli Mountain range is a real treat. Enjoy views for miles as you ride between Foel Eryr in the west and Foel Drygarn in the east, passing Bedd Arthur, Foel Feddau and Carn Menyn en route.

Choose a clear day for this segment and you'll see as far as Ireland! Even on a foggy day there's still ancient burial sights and a valley full of myth and legend.

Bedd Arthur Stone Circle

According to folklore, Bedd Arthur (meaning ‘Arthur’s Grave’) marks the final resting place of King Arthur. However, the stone circle has now been dated to the late Neolithic period—meaning the stones were erected many centuries beforehand. The area has a very special atmosphere and boasts exceptional views, making it a great place to stop and rest for a while.
