Old Gries Parish Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The door of the church was unfortunately locked when we visited on November 9th, 2021, but the cemetery was very beautiful.

In the church you can find Michael Pacher's wing age and a Romanesque wooden crucifix from the 13th century.

View of Bolzano

Highlight • Viewpoint

If not all the shops in Bolzano are open on Sundays and the weather is not suitable for long walks, the Bolzano promenades are a good option. Along the Oswald and Guntschna promenades, Bolzano lies at your feet and you can stroll past Mediterranean plants. If it is too hot in summer, the promenades offer shade and great viewpoints of the surrounding mountains up to the Rosengarten.

Guntschnapromenade

Highlight • Trail

The Guntschnapromenade is worth a visit at any time of the year. Even in midsummer, large trees with their crowns provide sufficient shade and in winter, beautiful wrought iron benches allow you to catch the warming rays of sunshine. Panoramic views, exotic trees and plants with wonderful flowers make the connoisseur's heart beat faster.

April 8, 2025,Passeggiata del Guncina a Bolzano
The Guncina walk is a beautiful historical route on the hills north of Bolzano, very well maintained. The itinerary starts roughly in the Gries district and ends further east at the Talvera river. There is no reason why it cannot be done in the opposite direction.
The low difference in height and the always very moderate slope make it accessible …

Today we took a stroll around Bolzano, first through the old town, with its beautiful alleys and houses – but wow, it was so crowded, not for us... 😬
Then we headed "out" towards the Guncina Promenade; the path there was so-so, but the promenade itself was very nice, you could sit there, it had alternating sun and shade...at least …

Showing Translation

After initially mixed to bad weather in the mountains (which is why we unfortunately didn't record our tour), we diligently researched the weather and headed south from the Passeier Valley to Bolzano, specifically, to take a closer look at the very beautiful old town.
