Hartberg

Highlight • Settlement

A stroll through the beautiful old town of Hartberg is definitely worth it. Especially nice is the main square with the town hall and the church.

Parish Church of St. Stefan in Hofkirchen

Highlight • Religious Site

This church is over 500 years old. For a long time it was not so sure that it would happen. In 1806, even the demolition of the church was demanded, which was only prevented because the community Hofkirchen promised to pay for the costs of conservation. In any case, it has since been maintained and constantly renovated - most recently in 2002. Essentially, however, the Gothic style has been preserved unchanged, which is why this church in eastern Styria is well worth seeing.

St. Jakobus Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

The half-round chapel with a round gable from the Baroque period was built in 1818 by the three farmers Johann Georg Gartlgruber, Josef Schirnhofer and Johann Josef Schirnhofer.
At the rear there is a Rainstein (Rain = border), which divides the chapel and the adjacent fields between two owners.

Steirerteich

Highlight • Lake

The pond is beautiful, sure. But with the view behind it of the mountains around Pöllau, including Pöllauberg Abbey... it's perfect.

Today we had the rare luck to meet Josef in person. He was busy watering the splendor of the flowers around his artwork. This requires about 400 liters of water per day in summer. He also had a brief introduction ready about the origin of this art project: When the bridge directly in front had to be rebuilt after a flood, a larger pile of earth remained on the adjacent slope. There he lovingly placed a small house for resting; as a nativity scene builder, it was only natural that he soon brought a few small churches, houses, and other handmade art objects there, to delight passers-by, but above all himself. All the lovingly designed buildings and sculptures come from his hand. The beautiful floral display, which adorns the entire area in summer, comes from the municipality, but is cared for daily by Josef himself. His whole heart is in this project, and it shows!

Cycle Path Between Sebersdorf and Hartberg

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Quiet asphalt (cycle) path, not much going on. I often drove between Sebersdorf and Hartberg train station. Nice route (except for the highway) ;)
