Sanctuary of Santa Maria del Novello

Highlight • Religious Site

The sanctuary of Santa Maria del Novello is located in the floodplain area next to the left main bank of the Po. The river flows a few hundred meters.
Popular tradition has it placed to protect from the floods of the Great River.
The construction, built on an ancient chapel and carried out by the Bonacossa family, dates back to the end of 1500.
Inside the sanctuary it is still possible to admire the original fresco of the ancient chapel.
In a state of disrepair at the end of the 1800s, the building was recovered in 1922 and since then its rebirth has been celebrated on the last Sunday of August

Covered Bridge (Pavia)

Highlight • Bridge

The Covered Bridge, also known as Ponte Vecchio, crosses the Ticino River and connects the historic center of Pavia with the characteristic Borgo Ticino district, originally located outside the peripheral walls of the city. The neighborhood was traditionally inhabited by washermen, scree workers and fishermen.

The bridge, symbol of Pavia, is particular, with its five arches, entirely covered by a structure, and equipped with two portals at its ends. Also, there is a small chapel in the middle of the bridge.

The current Ponte Coperto was built between 1949 and 1951 and reflects the characteristics of the ancient Ponte Coperto dating back to the 14th century, which in turn had replaced the ancient Roman bridge (whose columns are still visible today).

Lungoticino Sforza

Highlight • River

Very nice tour for the variety of landscapes it offers. For this reason, it would be better to divide it into 2 days to be able to dedicate oneself to visits to the monuments that are encountered both in the Pavese and in Oltrepó!

Idroscalo di Pavia

Highlight • Monument

Example of industrial archeology from the late 1920s. It served as a stopover for the Turin-Trieste route of seaplanes for the transport of passengers.
Now abandoned and decaying
