The Milbury's Pub and Ancient Well

Highlight • Restaurant

A traditional English pub on the South Downs Way with an ancient 300 foot (91m) well and large treadwheel that was used to pull water up from the deep excavation. Customers are encouraged to put coins in the charity box in exchange for some ice to drop down the well. The 'Wheel Room' features a gallery seating area, and there is a separate restaurant as well as a large beer garden. The bar area benefits from a large log fire, perfect for warming up when cold outside.

Source of the River Itchen

Highlight • Natural Monument

The source of the Itchen lies just south of Cheriton and New Alresford, in the South Downs National Park. The springs well up here and form a stream that winds north, becoming one of England's finest chalk streams.
