Malstedt Watermill

Highlight • Monument

The water mill in Malstedt is already as old as the village itself. Already in 1132 it was mentioned in a document. However, the existing mill was first built in 1763. Since the beginning of the last century until today it is owned by Ilka-M. and Bernd Sturm.

Originally, the mill was powered by two water wheels, which have been replaced by turbines since 1907. During this time, she also served as a sawmill in addition to painting.

During the Second World War, the mill fell victim to the flames, as did most of Malstedt. The watermill was rebuilt shortly after the end of the war. Since that time, the mill was operated as a modern feed factory, before the operation was completely discontinued in 2002. Thereafter, the mill facilities were dismantled and converted into apartments.

Fehrenbruch Stone Cist

Highlight • Historical Site

At the grave there is an information board. The reconstructed system is not at the original location. The original position of the plant was located about 30 meters southwest in the field.

The large stone box grave has 4 support stones on each side and one capstone each. A large capstone rests on the chamber. In Fehrenbruch there was a settlement from the Neolithic to the early Iron Age, as now disappeared megalithic tombs and hill and urn graves occupy. The stone box grave dates from the late Neolithic period.

About 50 to 100 meters to the west were two or three megalithic tombs that have disappeared today. The two large stones lying near the stone box are probably relocated bricks of these graves.

There are two rest shelters in one place. In good weather, the option with a table is popular, but if a sudden shower or strong wind hits, the well-maintained bus shelter with a boys' and girls' zone also offers good shelter.

Pig farm with free-range husbandry

Highlight • Structure

That's better than watching TV! The pigs move freely on the very large terrain. Attentive sows discover the cyclist sosofrt who stops to take a picture. She leads her piglets farther away. Or they are not disturbed at all. A very large area. Actually you need a pair of binoculars and for good photos a telephoto lens. A great "mess"
