View of Lohrhaupten

Highlight • Viewpoint

Lohrhaupten is a district of the municipality of Flörsbachtal in East Hesse's Main-Kinzig district.
Lohrhaupten is 347 m above sea level, 15 km southeast of Bad Orb. The bedrock here is the red sandstone of the Spessart. Lohrhaupten is located on the historic long-distance trade route Birkenhainer Straße. The nearby "Bayrische Schanz" is an old customs house on this street. Not far from the village is the Hermannskoppe, at 567 m the highest elevation in the Hessian Spessart.
The Lohrbach, the upper reaches of the Lohr, which flows into the Main in Lohr am Main, has its source in Lohrhaupten.

The oldest surviving mention of Lohrhaupten dates back to 1057. The parish documented here is therefore the oldest documented in the Spessart.

View of Flörsbach

Highlight • Viewpoint

Flörsbach is a district of the municipality of Flörsbachtal in the Main-Kinzig district in Hesse.
As part of the regional reform in Hesse, Flörsbach, together with the municipalities of Kempfenbrunn and Mosborn, formed the new municipality of Flörsbachtal on April 1, 1972. The Gelnhausen district was incorporated into the newly formed Main-Kinzig district in 1974. No local districts were formed.

The town is surrounded by forest in the Spessart on the Hartgrundsee at an altitude of 368 m above sea level, 11.5 km southeast of Bad Orb. A special landscape feature is the Wiesbüttmoor west of the town in the direction of Wiesen. The district and state border with Bavaria runs through the Wiesbüttsee here. The Birkenhainer Straße ran through Flörsbach in a west-east direction and at the Wiesbüttmoor the Eselsweg, another historical long-distance trade and now tourist long-distance hiking trail, crosses it in a north-south direction. The Flörsbach, which gives the village its name, has its source in the village.

The oldest surviving mention of the village dates back to 1324, when it was called Flerssbach. The Counts of Rieneck, later those of Rieneck-Rothenfels, held the village as a fief from the Electorate of Mainz.

Hermannskoppe Summit (567 m)

Highlight • Summit

The Hermannsborn fountain is located along the Birkenheiner Landstraße. It served the cattle as a drinking trough, which was then carried in the Middle Ages. The Birkenheiner Landstrasse was a busy military and trade route on the route from the northwest to the southeast. Since in the valley along the rivers like the Main the area was heavily forested and swamped, the "roads" led along the ridges at that time. The Hermannsborn fountain is already on the Hessian side.

Comments

October 13, 2024,Frammersbach Morsbach Birkenhainerweg Bayrisch Schanz
After all the rain, we chose a tour that mainly consisted of forest paths. Unfortunately, our expectation of sunshine was not fulfilled. In Morsbach, we met some happy pigs. They then did what we wanted to avoid today. After stopping at the Bayrisch Schanz, we did what pigs did. The path became trail-like and, as we had suspected, beautifully spongy.
