Papal Chapel in Tulszkowa

Highlight • Religious Site

The Chapel of Our Lady Queen of the Gorce, located on the yellow trail, is one of the greatest attractions of the Gorce. It is also called by tourists "Papieska" (Papal) or "Pasterska" (Shepherd's). It was built in 1979 without the consent of the relevant authorities by Czesław Pajerski. Its construction coincided with the 900th anniversary of the martyrdom of St. Stanislaus, bishop, the patron saint of Poland.

Its builders hoped that the papal helicopter would land on the meadow and that the Pope would personally bless it. On the day of the Holy Father's visit to Podhale, many people waited for him by the chapel. In the end, the helicopter with the distinguished guest on board flew over the Rusnakowa Meadow.

The chapel was built on the plan of the Virtuti Militari cross, the highest Polish military decoration awarded for outstanding combat merits. The interior of the small but extremely atmospheric chapel refers to Marian and patriotic values. Behind the stone altar, there is a small shrine where partisans prayed during World War II, and three helmets of Polish soldiers from various military formations.

PTTK Turbacz Mountain Hostel

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The views of the Tatra Mountains from this mountain hut are jaw-dropping.

It's located at the intersection of many trails, including those to Kudłoń, Stare Wierchy, and, of course, nearby Turbacz. Food and drink are available, of course, and accommodations are available too. It's a fantastic place.

Turbacz

Highlight • Summit

The highest peak of the Gorce Mountains - Turbacz 1310 m above sea level, included in the Crown of Polish Mountains. The peak itself is located above the shelter and you have to climb it if you approach the yellow, green, blue trail or the red one from Polana Gabrowska. From the gentle peak there is a wonderful view of the Tatras (in favorable weather).
