Wintersdorf Railway Bridge (Beinheim — Pont de Beinheim)

Highlight • Bridge

In 1893 the construction of the bridge began. Both the foundation work and the creation of the superstructure were carried out by the corporation for iron industry and bridge construction (Harkort). The bridge was 555.7 m long, had three main openings with spans of 92 m, as well as four flood openings on the west bank and five on the east bank, each with a span of 31 m. The three long power bridges were iron constructions in the form of semi-parabolic lattice beams with a rhombic, postless strut framework and a roadway below. The flood bridges used parallel-belted truss beams with a postless truss truss and overhead roadway. Caissons were used for the foundation of the stream piers. The bridge had two tracks from the start.
A pair of massive, squat defense towers flanked each of the two bridge ends. In addition, a pair of narrow, high towers covered with baroque hoods marked the transitions from the flood bridges to the main girders.
The bridge was opened on May 1, 1895. At that time, it was colloquially called the Roppenheimer Brück.

Sauer Delta Nature Reserve

Highlight • Natural

The Sauer Delta nature reserve is an idyllic setting for cycling. The alluvial forest that composes it offers a dream habitat with a particularly rich biodiversity.

In particular, ash, oak, elm and white poplar are found on the tree species side. The fauna is home to a great ornithological wealth, with 183 listed species, including 77 nesting ones.

Sauer Delta Nature Reserve

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Sauer Delta fascinates me since I do canoe tours in Alsace. It has a very special charisma and offers the animal and plant world a protected framework. For us cyclists, it is especially nice to drive through the meadows of the delta on the well maintained bike paths.

On the Rhine cycle path you often don't have a view of the father Rhine. Here it is all the better for it. Up close.
