Church in Below

Highlight • Religious Site

The small town of Below was first mentioned in documents at the end of the 13th century. A small chapel was also built at that time. The current church essentially dates from the 15th century and the wooden tower from the 16th century. In the following centuries it was repeatedly repaired, despite a great lack of money and other problems. When it's open, take a look inside: the wall paintings from the 15th century are almost completely preserved.

Below

Highlight • Religious Site

In 1296—the date of the first recorded mention—Nicholas II of Werle sold Below and other villages around Sternberg to the Cistercians of Neuenkamp in Pomerania. The fieldstone church, 9 meters wide and 16 meters long, forms the center of the village. The wooden tower was built in 1542. The church's interior is richly painted. Images of central New Testament themes adorn the walls.

Mildenitz River

Highlight • River

The Mildenitz is a right tributary of the Warnow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which flows entirely in the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim.
Here the Mildenitz crosses Lake Goldberg coming from the southeast. From the west bank it flows as a small stream through the town of Goldberg, past the local history museum. In earlier times, the building was the water-powered official mill. From Goldberg, the Mildenitz flows into Lake Dobbertin after passing under the wooden bridge on Bollbrügger Weg on the Zidderich meadowland.

This is what a school can look like. It's amazing how you can create a building like this from something old. You should definitely take a look...

Monastery barn
The monastery office barn was built by the monastery building yard before 1816.
The original purpose was to store and dry timber for the monastery building yard. It was used as a so-called monastery magazine until 1938.
In the period from 1938 to 1945 the uses changed from a youth hostel to a teacher training institute, HJ regional leadership school to
Defense training camp.
After 1945 the building served as accommodation for nearly 200 refugees from the east.
1948 to 1950 agitator school
1952 to 1989 pioneer leader school, at times a further training facility for lower-level teachers
1990 to 1998 retirement home
since 2000 "Lindenhaus" - use as a dormitory by the
Diakoniewerk Kloster Dobbertin gGmbH
Seed house
According to the previously known documentary evidence for the seed house, it was built in 1825 by the monastery building yard.
However, individual finds during the renovation work suggest an older construction period. In the seed house, the laying out and drying of pine cones was used to produce seeds for the monastery's own forest. At the same time it served as a house for forest workers.
The building has been privately owned since 2002 and has been lovingly and professionally restored. From now on it will be used for residential purposes.
Forest Office Monastery
This building was built in 1804 by the monastery office as a house with two apartments. From 1820 it was used as a forest inspector's house for the forester's yard of the monastery.
Because of the increasing monastery forests with their many districts
and the decades of successful forest management, the monastery forest office was set up by the monastery captain VICTOR VON OERTZEN in 1830.
