Piazza Paolo VI

Highlight • Historical Site

The square is the center of the city with the 12th-century Broletto Town Hall, the Torre del Popolo (City Tower) and the Romanesque Duomo Vecchio. There is also the new cathedral from the Mannerist period, the transitional period between the Renaissance and the Baroque.

Piazza della Loggia

Highlight • Historical Site

The most important square in Brescia, in Venetian style, with marbles obtained partly from the Botticino quarries, partly from historical Roman remains. Fantastic

Teatro Grande di Brescia

Highlight • Historical Site

The Teatro Grande di Brescia is the main theater in Brescia, located in the middle of Corso Giuseppe Zanardelli. It was built and modernized several times, over a period of time ranging from the first half of the 18th century to the mid-19th century.

Designed by the architect Giovanbattista Lantana, the New Cathedral, built from 1604 on the remains of the ancient Basilica of San Pietro dei Domi, rises majestically in the center of the square. Boasting a magnificent Baroque façade made of Botticino marble, it boasts a rather unique history: due to a delay in construction due to financial difficulties, the cathedral was not completed until 1825, with the construction of its dome, the third-highest in Italy.

Cathedral Square, Brescia

Highlight • Historical Site

Known as the square of Brescia's two cathedrals, Piazza Paolo VI is a magnificent example of medieval architecture and represents the heart of the city for the important historic buildings that overlook it, symbols of civil liberties and Brescian religious traditions. The square is pedestrian but can be easily traveled by bike and is full of places to have an aperitif.

Today it was time for a walking tour of Brescia. We parked conveniently and then went up to the castle. First, we looked at Panama. Then the city center with all its churches. Now we're crisscrossing the city in search of something to eat. It's so easy when they don't understand German here.
