Rantzaustein

Highlight • Monument

On the road from Klein Gladebrügge to Traventhal there is a boulder with this inscription: "FRID: Z REX HINRICVS RANZO 1575." Translated this means: "King Friedrich II. Heinrich Rantzau. 1575."
It is one of the famous Rantzaussteine. This was erected in honor of the Danish King Frederick II on his 15th anniversary of the government and also on the occasion of the 50th birthday of Heinrich Rantzau, who had many famous buildings built for the king.

Traventhal State Stud

Highlight • Historical Site

The former Traventhal Castle was the summer residence of the Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön. In the 18th century, the castle was best known for its late baroque garden, which was considered the largest and most important complex in the duchies. The building was demolished at the end of the 19th century and replaced by a historic, typical new building.
In the second half of the 19th century, Traventhal - like all of Schleswig-Holstein - came into Prussian possession. In 1866, a large state stud specializing in Holstein horses was established on the site, which became the most famous breed in the province. The large gardens and courtyards merged into the new function. The main wing of the castle was replaced by a simple new building, which was henceforth referred to as the manor house and served as the residence of the country stable master. Stables were built in place of the outbuildings. There were over 400 horses in them.
Today the facility serves as a hostel for various major events.

Kükels War Memorial

Highlight • Monument

An obelisk on a stepped brick base made of reddish natural stones, above a stone eagle on a ball. It was built in 1921.

An iron cross in contour on the upper gray granite slab.
Then the inscription:
Our heroes 1914-1918
Below is a helmet in half relief.

The majority of the monuments honor the killed German soldiers of the First World War as heroes, as brothers, as sons who gave their lives for a higher purpose: emperor and empire, people and fatherland. This should give the killing and killing on the battlefields in the countries attacked by the German Reich a higher and justified meaning.
Although the First World War claimed so many lives and the war was started and lost by the German Reich, the founders interpreted the death of war as meaningful in the inscriptions of almost all war memorials. The anonymous mass extinction was ignored, instead the soldiers were heroized and their fate stylized.

The inscription on the lower panel is after the name:
Faithful and brave until death

Behind the name and date of death of the soldiers is an O. (east) or W. (west) for the war zone in which they were killed.

Subsequent addition from 1958 on both sides with the names of the 32 soldiers killed in WWII with the inscription:
1939 In memory of the dead / 1945 for the living
