Fishguard Fort

Highlight • Historical Site

Fishguard Fort was built between 1781-85 after the American privateer Black Prince raided the port when locals refused to pay £1,000 ransom for a seized boat. A few years later, in 1797, the fort successfully warded off an invasion by the French with a single cannonball. These days, the ruins make for an interesting place to explore and afford great views.

There are superb coastal views on this section of the coast path between Fishguard and Ynys Dinas. It's a section characterised by rugged rock formations and gorgeous coves.

Aber Bach Beach

Highlight • Natural

Hidden away along the coast path is the appropriately named tiny, secluded beach of Aberbach. Covered in pebbles at high tide, the beach opens up to become somewhat larger (long and narrow) at low tide, with a few areas of sand becoming exposed.

Maybe the beach has changed names a few times, some maps have it as Aber Hesgwm, and other older maps, Aber Ascud.
