Kaliwerk Hattorf Industrial Complex

Highlight • Structure

The road from Philippsthal to Heimboldshausen runs through the middle of the Hattorf potash plant, the huge facilities of which stretch along both sides of the road. Even if the traffic on the street is quite heavy, the shared footpath and bike path is wide enough to get safely through the area and has enough space to look and take photos. A paradise for fans of industrial culture.

I was immediately taken with this villa on Rathausstrasse in Philippsthal and had to be immortalized in a picture.
Everything is symmetrical about the building: the stairs, the windows, the roof design - and right at the top, in the middle of the roof a tower with a clock - great.

War Memorial Philippsthal

Highlight • Monument

The memorial in honor of the fallen and missing soldiers from both world wars is in Philippsthal on Brückenstrasse. Many soldiers are mentioned by name on the boards.

The Werra Bridge Vacha, also known as the Bridge of Unity since 1990, is a 225-meter-long stone arch bridge from the Middle Ages that connects Vacha in Thuringia with Philippsthal in Hesse and spans the Werra. At the time of the division of Germany, the bridge was located directly on the inner-German border, which made it a symbol of the reunification of Germany after 1990.
The 225-meter-long bridge is made of natural stone masonry and has eleven arches in the foreland area and three arches over the Werra. The clear widths are around 5 m in the foreland area and a maximum of 9.6 m in the river area, with pillar axis distances of no more than 14 m. The width between the parapets is 5.5 m.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the structure was part of Reichsstrasse 84. In the spring of 1945, during the Second World War, two arches were blown up and rebuilt in 1950/1951 with reinforced concrete and a sandstone wall cladding.
Today the structure is used as a footbridge and cycle path.
Since 2003, the ecumenical pilgrimage route Görlitz-Vacha has led over the Werra bridge. This is where the Rhönklub-Jakobsweg through the Rhön towards Fulda connects.

Until 1990, this was the zone border between GDR and FRG, now the border between Thuringia and Hesse.
The so-called death strip was plowed back then and is now a forest, but it is easily recognizable.

Nadelöhr in the Seulingswald

Highlight (Segment) • Natural Monument

Great road through the Seulingswald between Hönebach and Friedewald
little traffic and best road surface with a pleasant incline / descent.
On both sides the forest gives a great view for a short distance, in the south towards Rhön and in the north to Rotenburg and to Alheimer in the Stölzinger Mountains 👍
