The annual polar bear swim takes place here on January 1st with hundreds of participants. The annual Celebration of Light fireworks festival is held on the beach on three separate evenings in late July and early August.

Science World (officially called TELUS World of Science Vancouver since 2005) is a science center-style museum featuring permanent and rotating interactive exhibits.

The museum is housed in a geodesic dome designed by Richard Buckminster Fuller at the eastern end of False Creek. The dome was one of the main attractions of Expo 86 and was subsequently renovated for CAD 19.1 million. The museum opened in 1988, and a year later, an omnimax theater was added in the dome's upper section.
