The First Theler Column in Höckendorf

The Theler columns are prayer columns or marter columns (stones of atonement) in the Saxon Eastern Ore Mountains from pre-Reformation times. Originally there were seven Theler columns on the Kirchsteig between Höckendorf and Obercunnersdorf.

Theler Column

Highlight • Monument

There were originally seven pillars on the Kirchsteig between Höckendorf and Obercunnersdorf. Today there are still two columns, one at the junction of the Kirchsteig from Dorfhainer Strasse in Höckendorf and the second above the Stieflitzgrund. Knight Conrad von Theler († 1361) comes from a Freiberg noble family, which was involved in the extraction of the ore mines in the area around Höckendorf. According to legend or tradition, he is said to have killed or stabbed the pastor in the sacristy of the church in 1332 because he had demanded too much of the profit from the ore exploitation for the church. Afterwards he is said to have undertaken a cruise to Jerusalem on penance and, after his return in 1334, erected the seven columns of prayer as an atonement on the Kirchsteig from Höckendorf to Obercunnersdorf. (This approximately 1.7 km long path corresponds to the path on which Jesus carried his cross to Golgata.) Source: Wikipedia

Winkelmühle

Highlight • Historical Site

The existence of a mill at this point dates back to 1541, when it had an overshot water wheel. The mill burned down in 1835 and was rebuilt immediately afterwards. In 1838 2 grinding, 1 Spitzgang and 1 oil press were in operation. The company Ellinger & Geisler took over the mill in 1910 and converted it into a branch with toolmaking and stamping.

The Aurora Erbstollen is part of the mining trail in the valley of the Wild Weißeritz near Dorfhain and is a very special attraction, because you can even visit the silver mine from the Middle Ages in the summer months.
