Königsmühle

Highlight • Historical Site

The Königsmühle from the 16th century is one of the 11 mills that can be found on the mill hiking trail from Zschocken via Wildenfels to Schönau. The owner and namesake was Nicol König in 1569. The Kunz family, related to him, was an influential miller dynasty in this area.

After the serious fire in 1890, large parts of the mill were destroyed and in 1897 the Königsmühle fell to Count Friedrich Magnus zu Solms-Wildenfels. In the 19th century, the Count of Wildenfels moved the stallion station of the Saxon State Stud to the Königsmühle.

After 1945 the farm became a new farm.

Idyllically located at the castle pond with a beautiful children's playground in front of it.
Seat of the local history association and the park tavern.
Unfortunately, much of the interior was destroyed by the flames in a fire some time ago.

Wildenfels Castle

Highlight • Castle

Wildenfels Castle rises on a mountain spur above the town. From afar you can see the white facade shining above the green treetops. Its impressive silhouette shapes the townscape.

Wildenfels Castle has attracted attention beyond the region, particularly through its cultural treasures, and has become a point of attraction at the foot of the Ore Mountains. Numerous exhibitions in the Musenhof and the contemporary gallery invite you to linger. Art lovers, guests and visitors to West Saxony can gain an informative insight into the artistic wealth of the region.

The "Blue Salon" with its unique silk wallpapers shines in new splendor after its restoration. With the finest silk and elaborate embroidery, you can admire a unique overall interior design from the late 18th century. Let yourself be enchanted by the flower bouquets, the rich decor and the oriental feel of this wallpaper work of art.

The classicist castle hall with the wedding room and the count's library are also worth a visit. The ceiling paintings by Christian Leberecht Vogel are particularly worth seeing. As court painter, he shaped Wildenfels Castle with numerous portraits of the count's family, murals and overdoors.
