Sanctuary of Maria Weißenstein (Pietralba Sanctuary)

Highlight • Religious Site

Maria Weissenstein in Eggental - The Cathedral in the Dolomites
Mighty and imposing, the pilgrimage site of Maria Weissenstein blends into the lovely natural landscape of Eggental. Every tree, every meadow here seems imbued with the Marian apparition of the hermit Leonhard Weißensteiner, who encountered the Mother of God in 1553 after falling into a deep gorge. In her honor, he built a chapel, which was further developed over time and is today an impressive place of pilgrimage and the namesake of the village near Petersberg.

Maria Weissenstein pilgrimage site

Highlight • Religious Site

At 1520 meters, this pilgrimage site is located. Here, Maria was supposed to have appeared to the mountain farmer Leonhard Weissensteiner, whereupon, out of gratitude, he built a chapel, which from then on attracted numerous pilgrims. Today there is an impressive church here, which by the way has already been visited by the Pope. It houses a pilgrimage and youth hostel as well as an inn.

Corno Bianco Trail

Highlight • Trail

After crossing the summit, some rope-secured climbing spots await us, but these can be mastered without any problems with the necessary caution and sturdy shoes.

The summit of Corno Bianco rises to 2,316 meters above sea level and offers an impressive 360 degree view.

From the top, in fact, you can see the Catinaccio, the Latemar, the Val di Non Alps, as well as on Lavazè, the Corno Nero and up to the Val d'Adige. The effort is amply rewarded.

Long but very pleasant hike. You cross beautiful woods and cow pastures. Arrived at Bletterbach at the base of the Corno Bianco, a very steep stretch begins which leads to a beautiful, wild and exhilarating scenery. From this point you walk on a narrow path and begin the ascent to the cross with an exhilarating finish, a path aided with …
