To honour him, a statue of him was erected in 1904 at the initiative of the ‘Selskip foar Fryske Taal en Skriftekennisse’. The inscription reads: “Oan Dr Eeltsje Halbertsma – Lju bliuwe ás Fryske tael en liet”. The statue first stood inconspicuously in a corner of the park and became weathered due to the damp location under the trees. It was therefore renovated in 1994 and moved to its current location.
