Lake Göscheneralp

Highlight • Lake

The reservoir in the Göscheneralptal lies at 1,792 meters above sea level in the middle of a scenic hiking and climbing paradise.
The Göscheneralptal is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Alps. It is home to a rich flora and offers a magnificent mountain backdrop with glaciers and lots of water. The Göscheneralpsee was created 60 years ago and contains around 75 million cubic meters of water. Today it serves as a storage lake for Kraftwerk Göschenen AG.
There is a narrow but easily accessible path around the lake, which leads through alpine pastures and moorland. The Göscheneralpsee with its dam can be reached by post bus or car.

Damma Hut, 2,439 m a.s.l.

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Access to the Dammahütte:
Route 1 "Southern"
The “southern” is the shorter route in terms of time and distance and starts at the parking lot (above the dam). Hiking time approx. 2 1/2 - 3 hours. It runs south of the Göscheneralpsee, on the slopes and mats of Älpergen and Höhenberg.

Route 2a "Panorama-Weg" from Dammareussbrücke:
For hut visitors who prefer a change in the route selection, there is a welcome alternative from the Dammareuss Bridge to the Dammahütte. The marked and signaled path leads steadily uphill along the moraine to two small bridges and then to a small plateau. Soon you will come to the normal ascent route at Dammastäfeli and after a few meters of altitude you will have reached the hut.

Route 2 "Northern":
The northern route leads us from the parking lot with a direct ascent to the raised bog. It is approx. 55 minutes longer in terms of time and distance and runs north of the Göscheneralpsee, along the slopes and mats of the mountain lake area. At the end of the lake, she crosses the Chelenreuss and leads us over an alp at the foot of the moss sticks into the valley of the Dammareuss. Routes 1 + 2 meet at the Dammareuss Bridge and continue in the same way to the Dammahütte.

Route 3 "Via Ferrata":
The path leads from the Dammahütte to the viewing cross. This route was created in 2015 and leads us towards Chelental. It consists of technical installations (guide ropes, rope bridges). The via ferrata route can also be walked in the opposite direction. The route is in the K3 difficulty area (white-blue-white) and requires sure-footedness and self-assurance. Via ferrata equipment can be rented in the Dammahütte and in the Chelenalphütte.

Chapel Bell of Göscheneralp

Highlight • Monument

The church bell of the Göscheneralp chapel, which was built around 1750. A new building was built in 1909. In 1955, the chapel and cemetery in the former hamlet of Göscheneralp had to give way to the reservoir.
After 55 years, the old bell was rung again in 2014. With a specially built bell tower, the bell at the dam is accessible to everyone.
