Forest Path to Eltz Castle

Highlight • Trail

A hiking trail that often does not allow any distant views and only a sparse view of the valley in leafy months. The path leads to Eltz Castle and is therefore frequented by tourists.

Stone Bridge over the Elzbach

Highlight • Bridge

The Elz is a creek about 60 kilometers long on which the fantastic castle is located. You can hike the Elzbach from its source to its confluence with the Moselle.

Wonderful tour, however, through storm trees on the way!

A path that is definitely worth it ... through the Eltz Valley, always accompanied by the Eltz river ... it goes on well-signposted but sometimes quite rocky paths through wooded terrain in the direction of Eltz Castle ...

From the free parking lot on Moselstraße, we followed paths (not the road leading to the hiking car park) along the Elzbach stream to Eltz Castle. The dogs, in particular, were sure to have fun in the water today.

The trail also passed the former wool factory, which now serves as an event venue.

Today on my hike I think I found the first signs of beavers along the Elzbach stream. Beavers hadn't been recorded here before. 😀

We used the public holiday to visit Eltz Castle. We took the train to Hatzenport. Line 365 runs daily from the train station from April 1st to November 1st to the final stop, Eltz Castle (parking lot), near Wierschem. A footpath to the castle is signposted. We took the road, past the St. Anthony's Chapel to a beautiful vantage point …

Short hike from the village of Moselkern to Eltz Castle, along the Eltzbach.

Arrival with RB81 to Hatzenport, from there every half hour bus to the Burg Eltz car park. The bus ride was much faster than indicated on the plan.
Attention: Access to the courtyard and the gastro area was only granted to those who had bought a ticket for the guided tour. Bit stupid for the one with a dog in …
