Stöckser Lake

Highlight • Lake

A beautiful lake that invites to a bath. In autumn, probably only interesting for dogs. Very nice location. A narrow path leads around the lake. Again and again small sandy bays.

Giebichenstein Boulder

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Giebichenstein in the state forest 'crow' at Stöckse is one of the largest boulders in northern Germany. The 330 ton granite stone is 7.5 meters long, 4.5 meters wide and 2.75 meters high. An image of the Giebichenstein is part of the coat of arms of Stöckse and the Samtgemeinde Steimbke in Lower Saxony. In the immediate vicinity of the stone there is the Großsteingrab Teufelsbett.
According to legend, under the stone was once the headquarters of a dwarf king named Giebich. As the giant Hans Lohe from the Grinderwald wanted to smash the Wölper church steeple in anger, it was the Giebich who with his secret powers forced the big, heavy stone on the ridge of the crow to the ground. There he is still today; He is called, after the benevolent giebich, who protected man against all evil forces, 'Giebichenstein' - in the vernacular of the region 'Gewekenstein'.
