Falkenstein Wine Trail

Highlight • Trail

The Falkensteiner Wine Trail is the first Austrian wine trail and was built in 1975, updated in 1995 and 2013 with the help of artists. As you wander through the first section, you will learn information about the history of the vine and viticulture. The second section refers to the work of the winemaker in the annual cycle and the last part provides information on the quality levels of Austrian wine.

The heart of the wine trail is the varietal vineyard. A large number of Austrian grape varieties have been planted and are a feast for the eyes all year round: different shoots and flowers in spring, the variety of leaf shapes in summer and, as a highlight, tasting the grapes in autumn. Here you can enjoy a wonderful view of Falkenstein.

St. James Church Falkenstein

Highlight • Religious Site

The parish church of St. Jakob in Falkenstein is located in the midst of idyllic vineyards, at the foot of the imposing Falkenstein castle ruins. The church shines in the style of the early baroque and is consecrated to James the Elder. The interior design is as impressive as its external appearance.

Pilgrim enthusiasts can look forward to the landmark of the Jakobskirche inside the church - a Gothic Madonna made of sandstone and a rare depiction of the Holy Trinity above the high altar.
