Hardt Chapel (Hardtkapelle) in Magnetsrieder Hardt

Highlight • Religious Site

Legend of the Hardt Chapel:
According to legend, it was built to commemorate the settlement of a dispute between farmers from Weilheim and Wielenbach. Each group felt that the area was theirs, not their neighbors. When the groups gathered on site for a discussion, a being appeared to them who spoke to the Wielenbach area and confirmed this with a footprint in a stone. In gratitude for the solution, the farmers built the chapel. Today, a circle of stones as a seat invites hikers to gather here - even if they have no dispute to settle

Hardt Chapel, Haunshofen

Highlight • Religious Site

The legendary Hardtkapelle belongs to the municipality of Haunshofen and is located deep in the forest, the so-called "Hardt". The building, often referred to today as the "haunted chapel", was built in 1865 as a pilgrimage church with its own Way of the Cross - according to tradition, however, a chapel was already built around 1250 on said land.

Eberfinger Drumlin Field

Highlight • Natural Monument

A geologically remarkable landscape is the Hardt, the central part of which is the Eberfinger drumlin field with around 360 drumlins. Drumlins are the whaleback-shaped hills, either wooded or grassy, always running north-south. They were created during the last ice age when the glaciers retreated. A unique area where forests, rough meadows and moors can alternate within a few meters.

Plaque “Argue Well” at the Hardt Chapel
An old legend at the Hardt Chapel recalls conflict and reconciliation. The “Footprint in the Stone” serves as a reminder: Arguing well means finding peace in the end.

The Hardt Chapel stands on a site where a fierce dispute over grazing rights once erupted between Weilheim and Haunshofen. According to tradition, a shepherd appeared in the midst of the argument, placed his foot on a stone, and said: “As surely as I step into this stone, so surely is this Haunshofen common!”

With this sign, the conflict ended, and a chapel was built on this spot in remembrance. The footprint can still be seen in the ground in front of the altar.

The motto “Argue Well” serves as a reminder that disagreements are a part of life – what matters is conducting them with respect, truth, and the goal of peace.
