Steep and very narrow descent before Sabden and the start of the Nick O'Pendle climb.

A good climb from either side. Climbing it from the north is my favoured route (7% 1.3 miles). For those wanting a break try the Wellsprings Café / Spanish Mexican Restaurant, about half way up from the North.

Newton Fell Summit

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

A particularly steep section on the Waddington Fell Climb. As you approach it from Newton it can look particularly daunting, bit of a stinger at an average of 8% but maxing out at around 20%. You get a brief respite at the top before continuing on the rest of the Waddington Fell (Hallgate Hill) climb.
The full climb is known as Newton Fell in the 100 great climbs list.

As a descent from the south, it offers an opportunity for the brave to reach around 50mph on an exhilarating straight down to Newton.

Highlight • Pub

Amazing little village with excellent pub (Assheton Arms). The entire village has been owned by one family since 1558 so every property is rented. No satellite dishes are permitted, overhead cables or road signs. There isn’t even a village sign. Was the village where they filmed Whistle Down the Wind.

Pendle Hill

Highlight • Natural Monument

Pendle Hill at 557m is an isolated peak west of the Pennines and south of the main Forest of Bowland range. It is actually part of the Forest of Bowland area of outstanding natural beauty.
You can't cycle to the top but the road loop of the massive includes some great climbs to the west and east of the hill and cracking views.
