Stör Lift Bridge in Plate

Highlight • Bridge

In 2005, the drawbridge in Plate was converted into a lifting bridge. On the way past the Stör-Wasserstrasse you pass it. A look is worth it.

Meadow view near Banzkow

Highlight • Viewpoint

As I cycled past here, I spontaneously stopped to enjoy the great view of the meadows.
Two information boards on stones along the way tell about old legends from the area.

Sluice:
In the course of making the Stör navigable in 1576, the first lock was built in Banzkow. The sturgeon plays an increasingly important role as a transport route. It became necessary to use ships that were as large as possible for the transport of goods. The existing lock no longer served this purpose. It was converted to the Finow size (barges with a carrying capacity of up to around 200 t).

Bridge:
A crossing over the Stör has always been of particular importance to Banzkow. An important trade route from Hamburg to Neubrandenburg ran through Banzkow. Travelers from Lübeck to Crivitz also passed through here. The importance of the Banzkow Bridge can be seen from the fact that in 1800 many freight teams and cattle used this route over the Stör every day.

In front of the lock in 1897 a two-way swing bridge was erected, which was initially opened by hand and later by an electric drive. In 1952 construction work on the swing bridge was required. The spans were increased to 5.90 m and 7.70 m, the clear height was therefore 1 m. Over the years, the entire road surface, which consisted of thick wooden planks, had to be renewed several times.
In 2002, the municipality of Banzkow received a completely new bascule bridge over the Stör Canal.

Banzkow Potato Mouse

Highlight • Monument

Here you can park and start your tour. First of all there are only cobblestones everywhere, but those of the kind that are good to skate.

The stone mouse is decorated on special occasions. You can find more information here auf-nach-mv.de/reiseziel/a-banzkower-kartoffelsteinmaus

Village Church Banzkow

Highlight • Religious Site

The old village church of Banzkow was demolished around 1870. In its place, the current church building was erected in 1872 according to plans by the architect Theodor Krüger and consecrated in 1875. It is a hall church with a four-bay nave and a polygonal apse. The east gable shows panel structure. The three-storey west tower has an octagonal attachment with a pointed helmet in the upper part.

Mirow Village Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The first church building in Mirow is documented in writing for the 13th century. It is one of the churches of the Evangelical Lutheran Parish Uelitz in the Wismar Propstei, Mecklenburg Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany.

The church is one of the earliest examples of neo-Gothic architecture. The Schwerin master builder Ludwig Bartning built it on behalf of Duke Paul Friedrich, the patron of the church. The tower was only erected in 1883. The roof covering of the tower and nave has been renewed and no longer corresponds to the original condition. Originally the church tower had a pointed helmet.
