Kiebitzer excavator pond in Falkenberg (Elster).
The excavated pond was created in GDR times by the mining of valuable gravel, which was needed for the production of much needed sand-lime bricks. With a small narrow-gauge railway, the freshly mined gravel was driven into the nearby limestone sandstone factory and further processed. Thanks to the then mayor Gerhard Mollenhauer and many helping companies from Falkenberg, the "small excavated pond" was developed into a wonderful recreational area. Since then, the excavator pond has been very well known across borders.
Every first weekend in August big beach party. For campers, tent, day tourists everything available - supermarket, small very good restaurants - especially the ice cream parlor - a maze, children's playground, water slide, etc. Just explore.

Kiebitzer Gravel Pond

Highlight • Lake

The Kiebitzer Baggerteich is a popular excursion destination for nature lovers and those seeking relaxation. It is located near Leipzig and offers a diverse range of flora and fauna. The pond was created by mining gravel and sand in the 1960s and was later renatured. Today it is a sanctuary for rare birds such as the lapwing, which gave the pond its name. The Kiebitzer Baggerteich is also an ideal place for swimming, fishing, hiking or cycling. There are several circular trails that go around the pond and offer beautiful views of the water and landscape. The Kiebitzer Baggerteich is a real insider tip for everyone who wants to enjoy peace and nature.
