Viking Ship Museum, Roskilde

Highlight • Historical Site

One of the most important shipwreck sites is found in the silt of Roskilde Fjord, which is only a meter deep in places. In particular, the remains of numerous dragon boats (longships) from the Viking Age came to light here. In 1962, 5 Viking ships were found, in 1996, when there had long been a museum for the ship finds and this was being expanded, nine more ships were discovered, one of which is 36 m long and thus the longest dragon boat find ever.

Roskilde Cathedral

Highlight • Religious Site

The Roskilde Cathedral is one of the most important church buildings in Denmark and is also the burial place of the royal family. Many sarcophagi of deceased kings and queens can be seen here and as a result many side chapels that were built after the death of a monarch, as well as works of art of all kinds are exhibited here. The place is steeped in history and those interested should buy a corresponding information booklet at the entrance. The cathedral church is also an active parish church. Therefore, there is no or only limited access for tourists during church activities.

Gerhøj is a small place on the Roskilde Fjord with about 700 inhabitants. The Kro was closed for years and was taken over by local people in 1997 and brought back to life. The gastronomy offers a kitchen with Danish and French influence. The small beach hotel has 10 rooms. King Chr. X visited the Kro once. Where he sat with his family is the "King's Corner" today, of course with portraits of the queen and king.
The harbor is a cozy place where recreational fishermen still catch eels and fish in the fjord. You can also swim there and there are also some pitches for mobile campers.

A peaceful and beautiful bird-rich lake that offers stunning views on both sides of the bridge. Part of the Selsø estate, it's a wonderful place to stop for a break, especially early in the morning or later in the day. Don't miss it.

Beautiful day tour with the best paths.
The route partly runs along busy roads, but also through beautiful residential areas.
Overall, there were very few highlights and almost no riverside paths. I would have hoped for a lot more.
