The Hinterschnabel farm was first mentioned in the village's history around 1694.
The former mayor of Ellmau, Johann Leitner, took over his mother's farm in 1985 and has run it ever since at Ellmau's Faistenbichl.

Until the film crew from "Bergdokter" (The Mountain Doctor) became aware of the farm in 2007, the residential wing stood empty because it wasn't connected …
