Former pumping station Nieuw Beijerland

Nieuw-Beijerland - The municipal border of Oud- and Nieuw-Beijerland once ran straight through the Brakelsveer lock on the Spuidijk. The lock in the double bend at Spuidijk 46-48 has very old papers. Founded in 1613 under Sabina van Beieren, wife of Count Lamoraal van Egmond. The lock initially served as a discharge point into the Spui river of excess polder water from the creeks and ditches of the Nieuw-Beijerland and Nieuw Piershil polders, located a little further away.

History

The flour mill De Swaen, located on the Spuidijk, was originally built in 1703 as De Windlust. Not much is known about the history before about 1900.

In 1931 the mill burned down completely due to arson and was rebuilt in 1932; Many parts of the De Vrede/Molen van Rosmolen flour mill in Strijen were used, which had recently been dismantled. This was not possible without tricks: the 'new' hood was on the small side and was made to fit on the existing hull with some effort.
