This path runs alongside the River Valency. The wooded valley is really beautiful and has a totally different feel to the coast path.

Boscastle Village

Highlight • Viewpoint

Boscastle is a beautiful village and 100 years ago was the only harbour along a 40 mile stretch of the Cornish coast. It was an incredible busy port as until the late 19th Century, there was no railway into Cornwall so Boscastle was the main commercial and transport hub in the area.

The shape of the valley which runs down to the sea gives Boscastle its unique and stunning charm and is very popular with visitors.

Aside from the usual pubs and cafes, there is a also a Museum of Witchcraft and Magic which provides a history of British magical practice.

River Valency at Boscastle

Highlight • Natural

Valency is a short river with many small tributaries. After passing Lesnewth it cuts a valley before entering the sea at the harbor at Boscastle village. One of its tributaries is the Jordan, which runs 2 kilometers north before joining the Valency just before the B3263 road bridge at Boscastle.
The Valency valley is steep and the sides of the lower section are forested. The valley has flooded many times, most severely in the Boscastle flood of 2004.

Pentargon Cliff and Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

If you walk a short while on the South Coast Path from Boscastle Harbour to the north, you come to Pentargon Cliff and beautiful Pentargon Waterfall. The waterfall is best sighted just before getting there when you are reaching a stone stile about five minutes before. Allow 3-4 hours for the walk and to have a nice visit.
