Neuenhagen Castle

Highlight • Castle

Neuenhagen Castle was built in 1560 by the von Uchtenhagen noble family. In terms of architectural history, it represents a so-called "solid house", a transitional form that appeared in the 16th century between a medieval noble castle and the castle-like manor house that was later common. The owners had changes made to suit the taste of the time, some of which have been preserved. Theodor Fontane wrote about this in 1867: “Neuenhagen Castle on the other side of the Oder is relatively well preserved to this day. It is inhabited and offers, we have no doubt, a better stay than some modern construction.”
Private, company and municipal institutions have used the building over the past decades. Today the hotel "Kultur B&B Schloss Neuenhagen" is located here with the organization of weddings, celebrations and team events.
For all guests interested in the castle, the house opens its doors on Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the second and fourth weekend of the month.

Neuenhagen Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The village church of Neuenhagen in der Neumark was built in 1901/02 in the historicist style, using both Romanesque and Gothic elements. The hall church built in clinker brickwork consists of a rectangular nave in the southeast-northwest direction with a recessed rectangular choir on the southeast side. In the corner area to the right of the portal rises the tower with a square floor plan. The tower attachment with round-arched sound openings is enthroned on the lower part. The dome of the tower forms a tall helmet that starts in the shape of a pyramid and ends in a cone shape above a lantern in the upper part.
After a fire in March 2013, removing the burn marks and washing the walls revealed strong colors and ornaments on the walls, with rich green and red tones dominating the sanctuary in particular. In the 1970s, the interior of the church was painted white and the floor was covered with carpeting because, among other things, there was not enough money for restoration measures.

Altglietzen Cemetery and War Memorial

Highlight • Historical Site

The Altglietzen community cemetery is located a little away from the village church, directly on the busy Chausseestraße. On the southern wall there are two war cemeteries for the victims of both world wars. The stele for the fallen of WWI was inaugurated in 1920 and is only preserved as a "ruin". Until 1945 it was crowned by an eagle with spread wings. The inscriptions are difficult to recognize: "In honor of your sons who remained in the world wars 1914-1918. The community of Alt Glietzen" and the names. A small memorial grove with a cross, a stele with an inscription and two gravestones was laid out for those who died in World War II.
