Footbridge Over the Kerkerbach

Highlight • Bridge

This footbridge is a bit off the designated cycling and hiking trails, but fits idyllically into the townscape of Eschenau and, next to the marble bridge, forms a second crossing over the Kerkerbach.

Anyone who squeezes through the crack in the rock and ventures two steps further out will have a wonderful view of the Kerkerbach valley.

Squeeze through the split stone, 2 steps forward, then I have the beautiful view of the Kerkerbach valley.

Kerkerbach Railway Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

As a meter gauge railway, the Kerkerbachbahn had a route length of 35 km and ran at a maximum speed of 25 km per hour. It drove from Dehrn to Mengerskirchen and was founded on May 12, 1884 as a stock corporation.
In 1887, a narrow-gauge branch line for transporting people and goods was built and operated between Dehrn and Heckholzhausen, which connected to the standard-gauge Prussian State Railways with a track width of 1435 mm in Kerkerbach. The narrow-gauge railway was supposed to transport ore, limestone, Lahn marble, basalt and clay there so that they could be transported on the standard gauge of the Prussian State Railway in the direction of Limburg or Giessen.
The railways thus ran on three rails from Dehrn to Kerkerbach.

Beautiful view of Hofener Mill

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Hofen mill was built in 1710 by Friedrich Wilhelm from Schadeck to grind grain and oil. He had to pay water rent and was allowed to grind grain for everyone.
From 2010, Gernot Dorn and his son Lars have been running the mill as a restaurant, offering cakes on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 12 p.m., and as an event venue. There are also mill tours.
