Binissalem is the Mallorcan capital of wine. The wine from this region is protected by the denomination Denominación de Origen. According to documents, wine was produced here in the 14th century. The wine production increased considerably in the 19th century, until the phylloxera from America had been introduced to France and destroyed there and around 1900 many vineyards.
