The artwork was created and installed by the artist Ole Hempel (1944-2007) in 1996. When the Faaborg Savings Bank celebrated its 150th anniversary in 1996, it supported the Faaborg Art Society's exhibition "Sculpture in the Courtyards," which also included the exhibition "The Hunt for the Core of Matter."

The Voigt Estate

Highlight • Historical Site

The Voigtske Gaard in Faaborg is a testimony of a rich and significant epoch in Faaborg, where the city's diet was based on the turnover of the great merchants of grain production in the country and a large volume of exports to many countries. The camp was built for this cereal, and it was earmarked as a grain store until 1977.

Vesterport

Highlight • Historical Site

Vesterport is the last remnant of a medieval fortress with city walls and tombs surrounding the city.
Later Vesterport and three other gates served as customs control.
The town gate became obsolete when excise duties on imports of goods into the market towns ceased in 1850.
In 1876 the city council was about to demolish the gate. It was saved at the last minute due to the cost of demolition and the consequences for the adjacent homes.
Restored in 1879. Renovated again in 1917. The original window openings were restored and the upper part of the hooded gables was reconstructed.

Faaborg Old Town

Highlight • Settlement

Faaborg's Old Town – a walk through history
The old town of Faaborg is a true gem of Southern Denmark – charming, lively, and full of historical details. Cobblestone streets, colorful facades, and winding alleys tell of centuries of urban development.
Particularly impressive is the free-standing Klokketårn, a bell tower from the late 15th century, which once belonged to the Sct. Nicolai church and today towers over the city as a landmark.
Guided tours through the old town lead past old merchant houses, the market square Torvet, and the Faaborg Museum. From here, you can also spot the surrounding islands such as Bjørnø, Avernakø, and Lyø – a panorama that combines history and nature.
The old town is not just a place to linger, but also an ideal starting point for hikes and cultural discoveries.
