Trinity Column (Dreifaltigkeitssäule) Baden near Vienna

Highlight • Monument

The construction of this unique baroque monument was decided on the basis of a vow made by the citizens of Baden to mark the successful recovery from the plague in 1713, and was carried out by the Italian sculptor Giovanni Stanetti according to the plans of the painter Altomonte. Construction work lasted from 1714 to 1718. The pillory once stood on the site of the current "plague column". A Roman stone bench was found during the foundation work. This is proof of the existence of the former "Aquae". The "Ferdinand Fountain" was put into operation on the front of this Trinity Column on June 13, 1833. It is intended to commemorate the failed assassination attempt on the then Crown Prince and later Emperor Ferdinand.
