Rügendamm Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

The old bridge and the Rügendamm are very easy to cycle on. If necessary, however, you should find out about the bridge opening times (they are attached to the bridge keeper's cottage), otherwise you may miss an appointment.

Kogge Warehouse, Stralsund

Highlight • Monument

The typical warehouse building got its name from the ceramic ship relief, which was created by sculptor Paul Horn and can be seen on the sea side of the building.

A footpath that is closed to cars leads through the Kniepertor. The road leads past the gate, so that pedestrians can walk through the gate in a relaxed manner.

July 14, 2022,🚴‍♀️ Stadtbesichtigung Stralsund mit Rügenbrücke
In October 2007 I was present at the opening of the Rügen Bridge.
Angela Merkel had cut the barrier tape a day earlier.
On foot with the children over the Rügen Bridge, unique, the memories remain.

Stralsund, the gateway to Rügen.
A lot is still being built / restored here.
It combines old with new.

The lifeguard tower in Altefähr offered more than just shelter from the wind; with a cold drink I'd brought along, it was the perfect spot for my personal Rügen year-in-review.

New for me in 2025 was the finally completed bike path between Prora and Karow in the spring, as well as Lake Nonnen.

September 11, 2024,Meeresmuseum Stralsund
As it was raining again in the morning, we drove to Stralsund. Due to a traffic jam on the bridge, we parked in Altefähr and continued on our bikes, initially in the drizzle, but it was OK. Stralsund is always worth a visit. The maritime museum was closed for a long time for renovations, but now it has been reopened …

It took me four years to finally experience each of the 26 big stars.
However, in recent years there was one at the Störtebeker brewery, which is now (apparently) missing this season.
In the disgusting weather, cycling down Rügen was more of a way to pass the time before the Christmas beer; nevertheless, some nice pictures were taken in/from Altefähr.

Quite uncharacteristically, I felt like going out again this evening and drove "over" to Altefähr (where the church was still open after an event...) and enjoyed the balmy summer evening......
