Pinnow Village Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The village church, built around 1400, belongs to the Pinnow-Murchin parish in the Lassan parish. The ensemble of village church with vicarage and vicarage garden is a listed building.
The Pinnow village church is a pilgrimage church and now attracts around 100 pilgrims from Germany and Europe every year. Opposite, in the parish hall in the vicarage barn, members of the Association for the Preservation of the Pinnow Village Church run a pilgrims' hostel.
The church is a brick building, now plastered, mixed with fieldstone in places, dating from around 1400 on a rectangular floor plan. The uneven buttresses were apparently built later. Originally they were pointed arches like a bricked-up window on the north side and the west portal. The gables are structured by blind panels. The windows were given segmental arches during a renovation. Inside, the building has a flat beamed ceiling. There are various niches in the inner wall surfaces.
Until the end of the 1950s, the church had a centrally arranged pulpit altar. The pulpit from the 16th or 17th century with images of the evangelists and the altarpiece from the 17th century are still preserved. The latter with a baroque depiction of the Last Supper. The altar table is dated 1602. The galleries were built around 1800, the pastor's chair in the 18th century.
During a preliminary investigation for the planned restoration in 1993, a total of nine versions of wall painting were found. The oldest paint remains with tendril paintings and painted stone blocks date from the Middle Ages. On the east wall there are remains of a baroque curtain painting.

Gravestones: There are several gravestones in the church. A double gravestone, which covers the former portal on the northern wall, shows Vicko von Stedingk († 1368) in armor and his wife Margarethe († 1368) with a long robe and net-like headgear. Set into the floor of the church is a stone slab in memory of the former land rent master of Pomerania-Wolgast and district administrator of the Stolpe district, Nicolaus von Klemptzen († 1552), which his widow Magdalena von Bonow donated in 1555. Fragments of an originally 2.7 meter high and 1.6 meter wide gravestone of a married couple from the von Steding family from 1415 form the threshold of the west portal. The size of the slab is unusual for a village church. The inscription department of the University of Greifswald found evidence of the influence of the Renaissance in the preserved depictions, in contrast to the rigid depiction on the gravestone from 1368.

Organ: The organ was built in 1847 in the workshop of the Stralsund organ builder Friedrich Nerlich. The side-playing organ has a manual (C to d3), an attached pedal and eight registers.

Ping: The peal consists of a bell from 1533, which is located in a free-standing bell tower west of the church.

The Great Lake Pinnow is located in the Pinnower Forst in Lassaner Winkel. The lake has a length of about 1.3 km and a width of about 690 m. Its origins go back to the last ice age.
Above all, the north and east shores are blurred and difficult to access. On the southwestern shore of the lake is a very pretty little swimming area (beach). The very clear water invites you to swim.
There are no significant surface waters in the lake. Since the construction of a drain in the 20th century, the water level dropped significantly. After its closure, it has risen again and reached after heavy rainfall in May 2013 a recent high.
With a depth of 15.2 m, the Great Pinnower See is the third deepest lake in Western Pomerania. The water quality in the lake is of high quality. Measurements in 1997 revealed high visibility depths of 4.8 m to 5.2 m.
