Liebermann Villa at the Wannsee

Highlight • Historical Site

In order to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city, the painter Max Liebermann had a summer residence built on the banks of the Großer Wannsee in 1909.

The garden, laid out according to his own ideas, inspired the important representative of German Impressionism to create around 200 paintings. Some of these paintings can be seen today in the Liebermann Villa Museum.

House of the Wannsee Conference

Highlight • Historical Site

Today the memorial in the House of the Wannsee Conference commemorates the dark hours of National Socialism. A permanent exhibition on the ground floor of the building is supplemented by changing exhibitions.

Highlight • Rest Area

Maybe it should be mentioned here in advance that it is not allowed to take the bike to the peacock island. Komoot showed me bike paths, but these are not such, but only foot trails.

Pfaueninsel Palace

Highlight • Castle

In 1794, the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm II had the small fairytale castle built on the Peacock Island for himself and his lover Wilhelmine Countess Lichtenau. In the typical style of the time, the pleasure palace was designed as a small castle ruin.

The castle was not damaged in the Second World War and has been preserved in its original condition to this day. The impressive interior in particular will take you on a journey back in time to the late 18th century.

The castle is generally open from March to October and can be visited Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please note, however, that it is currently closed for renovation work.

Pfaueninsel Dairy

Highlight • Historical Site

The dairy was built in 1794/95 at the same time as the Pfaueninsel Palace as a "jewelry farm". The exterior of the building is reminiscent of a ruined monastery. On the first floor of the dairy there is a stable where dairy cows were housed.

Beelitzer Hunter's Blind on Pfaueninsel

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The so-called "Jagdschirm" from the Beelitz mountains is a hunting lodge built in 1796 by the court carpenter Johann Gottlieb Brendel for King Frederick William II in the royal hunting grounds near Beelitz and then converted to the peacock island at the request of the king. The timber-framed building, which is boarded with boards, is completely covered with oak bark on the outside. Inside, there was a salon for the hunting party, which was covered with curtains and painted paper wallpaper with fluted pilasters and glued bases and capitals. The Jagdschützen shot out of the dark basement level, which had only narrow loopholes.

Peacock Island in southwest Berlin is one of the most popular tourist destinations.
The island is a nature reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The island, approximately one and a half kilometers long and half a kilometer wide, has retained its fairytale character over the centuries and today invites you to take long walks. The island in southwest Berlin takes its name from a special feature: free-roaming peacocks that occasionally do cartwheels for visitors. In addition to the peacocks, several water buffalo also live on the island, which act as natural lawnmowers.

January 2, 2025,Wannsee Runde Düppeler Forst und Pfaueninsel
My child gave me a great hiking backpack for Christmas, which I had to test out straight away.
Today I took advantage of the perfect weather, packed my backpack and put on my sunglasses.
We set off from the Wannsee S-Bahn station, past the House of the Wannsee Conference memorial

Today's walk started at the Wannsee S-Bahn station and initially took us along the hiking trail near the shore towards Peacock Island. The island was well-visited, but not overly so. After the ferry, we soon reached the palace, which was built between 1794 and 1795 by the Prussian King Frederick William II as a place of relaxation and retreat. The …

With the S-Bahn from Berlin-Mitte to Wannsee.
Wannsee is a district in the Berlin district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, which is located in the south-west of the city. The district, which is mostly between lakes, is a popular destination for many Berliners and tourists. We walked to Peacock Island. The first 1.5 kilometers weren't that nice, but then we went along the …

Today there was a tour on one of my favorite routes in Berlin.

Shortly after the S Wannsee, it always goes along the Wannsee, first past villas and the Flensburg Lion. From there you have a great view of the lido.
Then through the Düppeler Forest to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Pfaueninsel.
In this beautiful landscape park you …

🥾...Komoot suggested a round at Wannsee today. "Well" we thought, why not and off we went from the S-Bhf. Wannsee. Some sights are always nice to look at 😉 and there is a lot to see. Later at the landing stage, where the ferry crosses over to Peacock Island, there is a small restaurant where you can take a break …
