This old, listed mausoleum, which served as a burial place for the Counts of Asseburg-Falkenstein, is located on the outskirts of Meisdorf, right on the hiking trail. A number of information boards tell the story and there is also a stamp station for the Harz hiking badge (HWN 207) here.

Selke Riverside Trail

Highlight • Trail

A really impressive hiking trail! If you start from Gasthof Zum Falken, the path starts just behind the bridge and everything is signposted. The path is a nature trail with many information boards about flora and fauna along the route. Fitness equipment was set up at various intervals. A hiking trail along the Selke in the middle of nature, wonderful!
Almost at the end of the route is the mausoleum, stamp office 207 of the Harzer hiking nobility.

Falkenstein Castle

Highlight • Castle

Falkenstein Castle stands out as a jewel above the Selketal in the eastern Harz Mountains. You can see it from afar when you arrive. From the other side of the valley, that of the Ackeburg, you also have a very good view. The castle is completely preserved and serves as a museum. Many interesting exhibits provide historical insights. The tower, from which one can overlook the Selketal, allows a view. Knight and castle festivals take place seasonally. A falconer practices his craft here and you can even hold a wedding. The stamp office 200 of the Harzer hiking nobility is in front of the gate.

Chestnut Avenue in the Selke Valley

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Here you walk through an avenue of old chestnut trees through the Selketal. The path is lined with cow pastures and meadows and here and there you can catch a glimpse of the impressive Falkenstein Castle.

September 24, 2022,Mit einem Stempel-Neuling auf Tour durch das schöne Selketal 💚
Made a great tour through the Selketal today in glorious weather. We passed 4 stamping points, including the Selkeblick, which rightly became the most beautiful stamping point in 2021. Absolutely gorgeous and with a great view of Falkenstein Castle and the Selketal.

Even today it started comfortably and the first stamp of the HWN 207 was not long in coming. The mausoleum was built as a burial place for the Asseburg-Falkenstein noble family, who owned and lived in Meisdorf Castle and Falkenstein Castle. The building, built in 1834, is not far from the entrance to Meisdorf.
You can take a look inside …

We started today's hike at the warrior memorial in Meisdorf. At first things went steadily uphill. On partly good hiking trails we reached the first stamp point HWN 204, from there we had a wonderful view of Falkenstein Castle. We continued through a wonderful chestnut avenue to the Mettenberg refuge Stamp 203 Our next destination was Falkenstein Castle, unfortunately Monday …

Beautiful stamp tour to Falkenstein Castle. The start was (unlike originally planned) a bit away from the parking lot at Burg Falkenstein (the reason was the knights' festival at Burg Falkenstein and the resulting rush of visitors). From the parking lot we first went to the Mettenberg refuge (HWN 203), then from there to the Selkesicht (HWN 204). The highlight …

The beautifully developed paths on the Selke invite you to dream! It starts at the mausoleum, in which you can hear the bats screeching, further along the rushing water. Later you come across the mighty Falkenstein Castle, such structures are always interesting to look at! The tour continues to Selkesicht at the Ackeburg, here is rightly a stamp box, only …

Great weather, great trail, great castle. A thoroughly successful tour. I collected (besides 3 others) my 222nd and therefore last stamp of the HWN!!! 🏆

A nice tour through the Selketal, even if Komoot sent us through the Butnik shortly before Falkenstein Castle, on paths that didn't even exist. 😞 Ultimately, the views made up for it and the really great hiking weather with sun and 17 degrees. ☀️ It's a pity that you have to pay admission to the castle for food and drinks. …

Basically a nice hike. Unfortunately, two trails are barely accessible due to storm damage. Some replanning is needed.
