With its friendly restaurants, bars, cafes and pubs and fascinating history, East Grinstead is a charming market town in West Sussex. East Grinstead has some incredible historic architecture: the high street is one of the longest stretches of 14th-century timber-framed buildings in England. There are also historic buildings such as Sackville College and the sandstone almshouse which was built in 1609. During the Second World War, the town became the unfortunate site of the worst air raid in Sussex when bombs fell on Whitehall Theatre and across the town. Statue of Sir Archibald McIndoe

This bronze statue is dedicated to Sir Archibald McIndoe, he was the world-renowned plastic surgeon, who transformed the disfigured faces and hands of servicemen who sustained horrific burns during WW11 and practised at the town’s Queen Victoria Hospital.

Weir Wood Reservoir Local Nature Reserve

Weir Wood Reservoir is a Local Nature Reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest, protected due to its role as one of the largest areas of open water in Sussex and the bird populations that it supports. There is a bird hide just off Legsheath Lane, along the south bank of the reservoir, with an outlook over the water. The western end of the reservoir is home to the sailing club.
